Blockchain 101: How to setup your wallet in The Sandbox
Learn how to get started with blockchain gaming in The Sandbox Metaverse.

As we get closer to our token sales events, we want to introduce players who are new to the blockchain technology on how to start using a wallet and how cryptocurrencies (or tokens) can be used in our games.
We’ll provide guidelines for MetaMask and Bitski, the two wallets our gaming platform accepts at the moment. Those are cryptocurrency wallets compatible with the Ethereum blockchain needed to interact with our game. If those terms are unknown to you, you have to read this article.

Cryptocurrency Wallets
Cryptocurrency wallets are softwares that manage your cryptocurrencies and allows you to interact with blockchain technologies, like Ethereum. You can use this digital wallet in The Sandbox marketplace to publish and sell your digital creations using the Ethereum blockchain.
Every time you need to interact with a website that uses blockchain technology, you will get a notification to sign and authorize said website to access your information and keep track of the transactions made within your wallet.
Your wallet allows you to visualize and manage any asset that you buy in a permissionless fashion. As an example, an asset that you buy from our Marketplace can later be sold on other marketplaces like Opensea, without our approval, and with the same wallet. Ethereum wallets (eg. Bitski & Metamask) enable to interact will all decentralized applications based on Ethereum; it facilitates interoperability.

Uses
Cryptocurrency wallets enable you to interact with blockchains while remaining in control of your funds and assets. As long as you have access to your wallet, your virtual goods will be accessible on it regardless of the state of game or website where you purchased it, meaning that you will be able to sell it again or exchange it for another cryptocurrency. It provides true ownership of everything that you buy.

How to setup your wallet
By connecting your social accounts (Facebook, Twitter or Google account via our Venly (formerly Arkane) integration, creating a crypto-wallet via Metamask (recommended for a full crypto-experience) or Bitski (with email)

MetaMask (web3 wallet)
MetaMask is one of the wallets that we are currently using in our Marketplace. To use this wallet you’ll need to install a plugin extension — follow the steps in this video to install MetaMask:
Once installed, you will be able to link your wallet into our marketplace to finally create your account name.
Bitski (via email)
Bitski offers a simple solution to creating a wallet via email, without the need of installing a plugin. To install it, follow these simple steps:
After clicking on the Login button from our Dashboard, you will encounter the wallet popup to select the creation of your Bitski wallet.
After this, you’ll need to fill in basic information and authorize our marketplace to access your wallet in case of purchasing SAND, NFTs, or LAND in our upcoming presale events.
Getting ETH
ETH (Ether) is the main Ethereum blockchain’s cryptocurrency.
To interact with a blockchain (eg. Ethereum) and their applications you need to possess its cryptoccurency (ETH), so you will need to convert Fiat currency — aka real-world money like USD or EUR— to ETH.
Many wallets and marketplaces recommend Coinbase to begin with the process of converting your Fiat currency and starting in the blockchain ecosystem.
